Seguimos la ruta por el interior del parque de Serengueti, hasta encontrarnos con la charca de los Hipopótamos (caballos de agua). El mejor lugar para observar éstos grandes herbívoros muy de cerca.
Se conocen fósiles en Africa de éste animal desde hace mas de 16 millones de años.

Durante el día, reposan en las charcas, que es donde realizan la cópula y el parto. En el interior del agua, son animales muy territoriales y descansan juntos huyendo del calor como esta mama y su cría y evitando la resecación de la piel, pero durante la noche, abandonan la charca para alimentarse y lo hacen de forma independiente sin ser tan territoriales.

Su boca es enorme y sus mandíbulas pueden abrirse en un ángulo de 150 grados.
