Durante el día, reposan en las charcas, que es donde realizan la cópula y el parto. En el interior del agua, son animales muy territoriales y descansan juntos huyendo del calor como esta mama y su cría y evitando la resecación de la piel, pero durante la noche, abandonan la charca para alimentarse y lo hacen de forma independiente sin ser tan territoriales.
