Esta preciosidad gris de manchas alares blancas, es el ave nacional de Uganda. Habita en las zonas de la sabana Africana, al sur del Sahara, aunque prefiere zonas mas húmedas para anidar.
Habita en pantanos donde se alimenta de ranas, grandes insectos, cereales y otros vegetales.

It lives in swamps where it feeds on frogs, large insects, grains and vegetables
Posee una gran área de piel facial de color rojo sobre el parche blanco que la otra especie más pequeña que también habita en Sudáfrica.

Es una maravilla observar como se exhiben con una danza de apareamiento a saltos y su fuerte reclamo a dos notas para atraer a la hembra.
Desgraciadamente es otra especie de las que consta en la lista de aquellas en peligro de extinción.
