-Although this widely spread across sub-Saharan Africa to enter the Ngorongoro Crater, we found this beautiful specimen of Aguila Volatinera or Terathopius ecaudatus.
It is one of the most curious specimens, short tail and broad wings. Belonging to the group of birds that do not have autonomy to move flapping but flows need to move forward, the best time to find it, is from noon, when temperatures have risen and thermals are well developed. They are elusive and well camouflaged so if you find a copy, I feel fortunate you can enjoy the spectacle of seeing it in motion. Once in flight, are difficult to recognize because they almost blend in with the sky due to the silver color of the inside of their wings.
This bird gets its name from its spectacular ability to fly and maneuver in the air, over the rest of raptors flying in open allowing you to specialize in capturing reptiles.
What I like about it is the striking red of his legs and his face, when resting in the treetops, the reveals and makes it unmistakable. They have great size and can reach 180 cm wingspan.
Not only carnivores and herbivores are spectacular in Tanzania, search and bird watching is a hobby that attracts hundreds of people each year to this country that never disappoints. I assure you that is a sight to see this beauty in motion.
